Janis (Joplin) came into our program because she was at risk of being sent to a kill auction.

Though someone purposely bred her, she was not educated.  For most of her life, Janis was nothing but a pet.  She learned that people meant butt scratches and attention, but a lack of formal education and an owner that passed away put her at risk of entering the slaughter pipeline.

Now at Bella Run, Janis is learning how to be a sophisticated lady.  Janis is a very smart mare and now enjoys hanging out with people!  Now, she is the first one to the gate... you can't get away from her!  She would be happiest with a family that wanted to pamper and love on her... she went from being feral to cuddly very quickly!

Once her hooves (which were not trimmed in over 10 years) are fully rehabilitated, she will begin her under saddle training.  Currently, she still needs confidence with the farrier, but we are getting there.  She can be saddled and bridled with no issue.

UPDATE 5/6/18: Janis has come SO FAR! She is being saddled and is about ready to accept a rider. She still isn’t a fan of having her feet messed with, but will comply with a little coercing. Please contact us if you are interested in Janis. Her fee has been reduced to give you a nudge in the right direction... towards adopting Janis Joplin!

Please note:  We will consider waiving her adoption fee to the perfect home, and she is also available to be fostered out.  If you are interested in Janis, we would love to hear from you!
